Halford was an American Fletcher-class destroyer equipped with a catapult for a scout observation plane. During World War II, she covered landing operations in the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and the Philippines, and she also fought in the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Over the course of the war, the ship earned 13 battle stars.
